Amanda Wakeley's Going Strong but Delicate For Spring 2016
Amanda Wakeley's signature aesthetic is firmly in place for Spring 2016. The designer, who always manages to rework her understated glam look every season, had her glamazon models in low-cut tops, exposed backs, and flashes of midriff. Inspired this season by the work of architect and sculptor Santiago Calatrava, and citing in particular the combination of strength and delicacy in his work, Wakeley showed a sexy collection of structured pieces in fluid silks and knitted wools, with sheer inserts of tulle and chiffon.
Plunging knitted jumpers were paired with sheer skirts, long, strappy camisoles were slit in the middle to show off midriffs and sharply tailored silk trousers, while flowing silk separates were pulled into proportion with thick obi belts. The designer's inspiration was also evident in the gowns that appeared in the latter part of the show, which came in plain and beaded silver silk and featured bold, graphic straps.
