Ariana Grande Owned 2018 in Style — Man or No Man by Her Side

13/12/2018 - 06:37 PM

If any single celebrity embodied girl power in 2018, it was Ariana Grande [1] — especially toward the end, when she received Billboard's Woman of the Year award [2] shortly after releasing the hit music video for "Thank U, Next." [3] While we certainly followed Ariana's romantic escapades [4] closely, we never overlooked her unique sense of style, even though her engagement ring from Pete Davidson [5] might have been her most-talked-about accessory.

On the street, Ariana tends to stick to a uniform of thigh-high boots and oversize hoodies. It's a combination we call "lampshading." [6] For red carpet events, however, the singer basks in the limelight in extraordinary designs. Just see her Vera Wang Met Gala gown [7] for reference, which was covered in a Michelangelo-inspired print. And her lavender "loofah" statement [8] will most certainly go down in history, too.

While it would be remiss to nix Ariana and Pete's coordinated Sweetener merch moment [9] from the lineup — and we most certainly did not! — it's safe to say Ariana kept one thing in mind from January through December as far as fashion's concerned: staying true to herself, man or no man by her side.

Ariana Grande [11] started off the year by Mac Miller's side at Madonna [12]'s Oscars afterparty in LA. Her feathered Saint Laurent minidress dress [13] was worth a whopping $11,900, and Ariana styled the piece with Le Silla thigh-high boots.

Ariana performed on site at March For Our Lives in Washington, DC at the end of March. We love how she coordinated the stamped oversize hoodie with her signature shoe of choice: Stuart Weitzman thigh-highs. Ariana accessorised with Harry Kotlar jewels.

Ariana performed at Coachella in a lavender Reebok sports bra, matching tutu, Chanel waist bag, and Casadei thigh-high boots.

At the May 7 Met Gala, Ariana accompanied Vera Wang in a watercolour strapless gown the designer created [14]. Appropriate for the event's "Heavenly Bodies" theme, the piece was painted with Michelangelo's "The Last Judgment" scene, which covers the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. Ariana's momentous look was finished with a large tulle bow and Butani jewels.

Ariana stepped out with Pete Davidson in June, sporting a gold Cloney Benji hoodie, custom Giuseppe Zanotti boots, a Louis Vuitton minibag, and Harry Kotlar jewels.

Ariana joined Pete again in the Big Apple in late June, working Re/Done cargo pants and an oversize denim jacket with Christian Louboutin heels. Her iconic cat ears were the icing on the cake.

Later that evening, Ariana coordinated a Louis Vuitton logo miniskirt with matching cat ears for date night with Pete. She covered up with a fuzzy Prêtte coat and wore velvet thigh-high boots.

In early July, Ariana and Pete were spotted in NYC in casual graphic tees, Ariana's by Brandy Melville. She wore distressed Carmar denim and stood tall in Sergio Rossi platform boots.

Ariana cinched her hoodie with a quilted, kelly green Chanel fanny pack for an outing in NYC in August.

Ariana pretty much looked like a metallic fairy at the MTV VMAs in August. She wore a chrome bustier with a fluted skirt [15], capped off with Le Silla boots and Harry Kotlar diamonds.

Ariana and Pete adorably matched in her Sweetener merch [16] the day after the VMAs in NYC. Ariana rolled up her Re/Done jeans to reveal Prada combat boots.

Ariana sang beautifully at Aretha Franklin's funeral [17] at the end of August, and she was appropriately dressed to pay tribute in a black dress and pumps for the major moment.

After a brief break from the public eye and her breakup with Pete Davidson [18], Ariana came out strong for Billboard's Women in Music event in NYC in December. She wore a Christian Siriano "loofah" dress [19], coordinated with Le Silla boots and jewels from Tiffany & Co.
