Armani Privé Serves Up Professional Glamour For Spring 2014
Giorgio Armani's greatness in fashion is based on a number of qualities. Chief among them: he makes great suits, he does wonderful things with metallics, and he understands women's bodies.
All three of those qualities were on display Tuesday, when the legendary designer presented his Spring 2014 couture collection in Paris. This edition of Armani Privé designs was split almost sharply between the two kinds of women Armani dresses most: those who dominate their professions and those who win Oscars.
The suits were cut mostly from fabric so shiny that it looked like flowing steel. That liquid quality continued with dresses that combined lace and sheer fabrics with paillettes and rhinestones. The effect was undoubtedly glamorous — which is handy, considering that the Grammys and Oscars are coming up — but also sent a far-reaching message: Armani's couture collection isn't just for red carpet events; it's for your entire life.
