Prepare to Live Life on Bottega Veneta's Jagged Edge
Tomas Maier’s Fall 2014 Bottega Veneta collection was all about the jagged edge. Rather than prints, fabrics in contrasting colors were combined along scratchy diagonal lines, putting a new spin on colorblocking in shades of burgundy, chartreuse, deep purple, beige, black, and white. Later, the looks took on a more patchwork-inspired feel, mixing fabrics like leather and satin, sheer chiffon and wool.
Beautiful fit-and-flare fur coats with stand-up collars were belted at the waist in shades of rich plum and camel. There was also a stunning statement coat — double breasted with wide lapels and concealed buttons — in a scratchy black-and-white print that matched day dresses in the same monochromatic hues.
The show finished with a procession of dresses in beautiful, swirled kaleidoscope textures and smoky prints, most in what has become the modern Bottega Veneta trademark shape — a reworking of the classic knee-length tea dress with cap sleeves — perfect for the lady who lunches!
