There Is No More Old Céline; Welcome to the New Celine

01/03/2019 - 09:57 PM

When it was announced that Hedi Slimane would be succeeding Phoebe Philo as the creative director of Céline, the fashion world was sceptical that Hedi was up for the challenge. Then, "it" happened. Hedi's first move at his new gig was to get rid of the famous accent in Céline's name, and thus the saga between old and new began.

After Slimane's first collection, people were curious to see if Hedi would pay tribute to Philo's tenure [1] and were disappointed to see that he did not. For his second collection, it's clear that it is, indeed, the end of an era.

For Celine's Fall 2019 collection, the designer stayed true to his rock and roll aesthetic [2] but tried to sprinkle in some Philo-esque pieces. The first model came down in a mirrored lift, which was pretty neat, but the collection itself felt like a total mishmash. The show started off strong with some shearling-lined coats and chunky knits, but that quickly changed into leather jackets and sparkly separates that felt like they were plucked from an old Saint Laurent collection.

Read on to see every piece of the collection ahead.
