Virginie Viard, Chanel's new creative director, invited attendees into a glamorous French train station for the Chanel Cruise show, and it was a fitting setting for a show that took us on a journey into the future, giving us our first real glimpse at what Chanel will be like without Karl Lagerfeld. Following the designer's death in February of this year [1], Viard took the helm at the fashion house, having worked under Lagerfeld for many years. After March's ready-to-wear show [2] (which may have been presented posthumously but still contained plenty of Karl's input), the Cruise 2020 collection marks Viard's first solo collection (though apparently Karl had a hand in the setting [3]). It did what it needed to, fusing Chanel hallmarks with retro throwbacks and modern ideas, continuing to take the label into the future. Take a look at all the key moments ahead.
