Yesterday the fashion pack flew out to Venice where Karl Lagerfeld staged the Chanel Cruise show on the beach. Of course there was a reason for the Italian location as Karl was inspired by classic Venetian glamour of the '30s with rich Renaissance fabrics and Fortuny's prints. He commented on the location explaining, “Venice has a genuine dark and mysterious side to it that fascinated me. I really like the Italian spirit and the Venetian lifestyle. And let’s not forget that Coco Chanel came back to Venice for 10 years.”
There was a strong nautical theme to the collection with plenty of stripes and brass buttons. There were wide brimmed hats and even capes adding a dramatic feeling to the show. The whole presentation ran deliberately late as Karl wanted to stage it as the sunset, the show immediately turned in to a party with the likes of Anna Mouglais in attendance.
