While my sensible mother raised me to think about investing in wardrobe classics, I'm a sucker for splurging on the fun stuff. Enter the latest iteration of Chanel's It shoe, the leather and PVC mules, which seem to exist almost in exact opposition to its camel-and-black cap-toed ballet flats and tweedy jacket (BTW, it would look great with a tweedy little jacket). This shoe of the Summer is decidedly less buttoned-up — a cool slide that's made for creating trend-driven outfits, whether you're beach- or city-bound.
It's the embodiment of high-low fashion, like taking a "jelly" slide from our youth and giving it a grown-up makeover with luxe finishes, a walkable heel, and a view from the top that's practically made for snapping a #fromwhereIstand for your feed, thanks to the Chanel logo spelled out right there on your toes. That appeal isn't lost on the influencer set, who have made a case for the mules all season with outfit shots, mirror selfies, and, sometimes, just a zoomed-in shot of their shoes, because, well, they're always the best part of the look.
To circle back to my earlier point, there are wardrobe staples certainly worthy of investing in — a black bag and a great pair of everyday heels come to mind — but if you're deciding between those classic ballet flats and this latest Chanel sandal, I'd venture a guess that you'll get your money's worth wearing the slides this Summer.
