Chopard Hosts a Party-Slash-Supermodel-Convention in Cannes
Chopard's annual party at Cannes always seems to double as a gathering of some of the world's most beautiful women. Monday night, top-tier models and major stars from around the world walked the red carpet at the soiree dripping in the jeweller's creations. Adriana Lima, Uma Thurman, Poppy Delevingne, and Irina Shayk were among some 700 guests at the beachside bash. Inside, attendees were treated to a live big-band performance by Robbie Williams in a space transformed to look like an elaborate gold mine — complete with mine wagons on a track overhead, gold flakes studding the cocktails, and seating made to look like golden nuggets.
L'Oréal model Isabeli Fontana arrived in one of the most memorable diamond pieces of the night: an expansive, and surely very expensive, Chopard choker. "I feel shiny," she told us. "Lots of security guards around me — to make sure I don't take it home, basically!"
Sara Sampaio, who was recently announced as one of the newest Victoria's Secret Angels, also stopped to talk with us about her first trip to the festival. "I've been in Cannes before, but never to the film festival, so I feel like a kid going to Disneyland for the first time!" She also gave us a little hint about the next Victoria's Secret campaign, launching in July. "We shot with Michael Bay about two months ago in Miami. That's going to be exciting!"
Petra Nemcova, who's a frequent fixture at the Cannes Film Festival and has designed several pieces in collaboration with Chopard, had a hard time deciding on a favourite memory from her many trips here. "Oh my god, there are many. The question is which one I am allowed to share," she said with a mischievous laugh. "Things happen — the most unexpected things you could never dream of. But many of them you can't share publicly!"
