Use These Hacks When Moving to Prevent a Nervous Breakdown

Packing can cause a lot of anxiety, especially when you have a pretty large wardrobe of pieces you hold dear. To ensure nothing gets damaged or mysteriously goes missing, it's important to stay organised and methodical while you move. Make sure you remember to set aside clothes to wear leading up to your move and also clothes to wear as you unpack at your new place. It's also a great time to purge any items you no longer wear so you don't have to make space for them in your new home.

We're sharing nine time- and space-saving hacks so you won't have a nervous breakdown when you get to your new place and can't find your vintage black quilted Chanel bag.

1. Use a plastic garbage bag

Get a large plastic garbage bag and put your clothes inside of it while it's still hanging in your closet. Tie the bag at the top by the hangers, and then when you get to your new home, you can place them in the new closet all at once.

2. Colour Code

Make sure your boxes are colour coded for different areas of your new home.

3. Roll, Don't Stack

Save space in your boxes by rolling your clothes into a cylindrical shape instead of stacking them.

4. Use a moving app

Use an app like Sortly to ensure you stay organised. You can use this app to take photos of what's inside every box you pack and can even use barcodes or QR codes to log the boxes.

5. Put your current clothes in a suitcase

Pack all the clothes you plan on wearing leading up to the move and when you get to your new apartment in a suitcase so you'll have something to wear while unpacking.

7. Pack out-of-season clothes first

If you're moving during the Summer, pack up all your sweaters first (even a month before the move) because you won't need them for a while.

8. Use tissue paper

Lay your delicate silk items between layers of tissue paper so they are protected during the move.

9. Use your shoes as storage

Pack small accessories like socks, scarves, and even watches inside your shoes to save space.
