Allied may have first come to your attention for another reason entirely, but after witnessing its trailer in all its glory, it'll make you wonder why that was ever a focus in the first place. Famed Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis and Oscar-nominated costume designer Joanna Johnston teamed up once again for the picture, adding their signature movie magic combination that'll leave butterflies in your stomach. The pair are masters of this feeling, with such cult classics under their belts as Forrest Gump, Back to the Future (II and III), and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
The film tells the gloriously beautiful tale of two lovers during World War II who resist romance during a mission to kill a German official but eventually fall for one another, hard. This leads to future complications for the pair who have started a family and created a life for themselves in London, when Cotillard's character is suspected of being a German spy. As Pitt and Cotillard progress through the film and the challenges they face, as do their costumes, fitting the different roles they play throughout. In an early scene set in Casablanca, Cotillard is seen wearing a fluid, printed kimono over a silk slip, said to be Johnston's favourite look of the film. Later, we see her dressed in a decadent, embroidered green gown that feels instantly iconic. When the pair settle into Hampstead, they adopt a more relaxed, comfortable style with the addition of a knitted baby ensemble that will make your heart melt. Read on to see just some of the magnificent costumes you can expect from the film.
