David Koma Reminds Us That Less Is More
David Koma has once again seduced everyone with his Spring 2015 collection. Doing what he does best, he turned to geometric shapes and sharply cut and body-conscious dresses, although the use of supple fabrics softened the designs. Not content with stopping there, he also played with colourblocking and added unexpected cutouts to crop tops and cocktail dresses.
During London Fashion Week in particular, it is easy to get lost amongst patterns, colour mixing, and embellishments. But with his strict colour scheme and the absence of anything superfluous, Koma reminded us that less is more. His was a streamlined, cohesive collection, and apart from thin-strap sandals created by shoe designer Alain Quilici, no accessories were added, and they were definitely not needed.
Next season, the Koma woman will be minimalistic yet seductive, and if the outfits presented may have seemed quite simple, they still made our heads turn. No wonder the designer has been chosen as the creative director of French house Mugler — we can't wait to see what he has in store for Paris Fashion Week!
