Fancy Taking a Look in Our Baskets? Here's Everything Our Editors Are Buying This August

01/08/2019 - 05:13 PM

This month, team PS is loving floral prints [1], whether it be a sweet sundress covered in lemons, a fresh Hawaiian shirt printed with palm leaves, or a button-front midi dress with baby-size bluebells. There are so many ways to wear this groundbreaking pattern.

While we love a floral print, animal prints have definitely come in as a close second [2] with mock croc, tortoiseshell, and faux-snake prints being team favourites. As for our bag of the moment, it's definitely a practical shoulder bag that can fit all our essentials, plus the optional book, umbrella, or bottle of water.

Another team favourite is the superversatile jumpsuit that you can wear anywhere, all Summer long. Jumpsuits make an easy, all-in-one outfit when you're in a rush, and they're a great transitional piece once we move closer to autumnal weather. Read ahead for everything our team is buying this August.

H&M Lyocell-Blend Flounced Dress

"I spotted this H&M Lyocell-Blend Flounced Dress [4] (£40) and thought the lemon print was adorable and the tiered ruffles was a unique silhouette for a high-street find. I didn't buy it, though, until weeks later when the temperatures were set to hit 39 degrees in London. Then, I realised that I had gotten rid of most of my old Summer dresses. Thankfully, they had one left in my size. The next day, not only did it help me stay cool (even on a particularly stuffy tube ride), but I also got tons of compliments — people couldn't believe I picked it up at H&M." — Sophia Panych, content director

&other Stories Duo Buckle Croc Baguette

"My handbag collection is made up of either supertiny micro purses that can only fit my essentials (phone, cards, keys, and lip tint) or large leather totes that hold so much that I can't find anything quickly enough. This medium size &other Stories Duo Buckle Croc Baguette [5] (£120) is perfect for holding my essentials, plus the optional book, umbrella, or water bottle." — Kara Kia, editorial assistant

ASOS DESIGN Trapeze Maxi Dress

"I have a wedding to attend in Scotland in late August, and as if finding a suitable wedding guest outfit for the changeable weather wasn't tough enough, I also have to factor in a five-month baby bump. Luckily, ASOS has come to my rescue with this ASOS DESIGN Trapeze Maxi Dress [6] (£38), which has a roomy trapeze cut that'll spare me the hell of maternity clothes for just a little bit longer. It looks just as good if you're not pregnant, too." — Gemma Cartwright, senior editor

Zara Satin Headband

"The humidity in London is already killing me, so all I want to do in August is embrace the headband trend (the only trend I'll indulge in) with open arms. This Zara Satin Headband [7] (£13) is just so darn cute and helps me keep my frizzy hair in check." — Angela Law, assistant editor

Ghost Adorlee Dress

"A flattering midi dress that I can wear to work is always a good idea. I love the bishop sleeves, buttons, and plunging neckline of this supercute baby blue Ghost Adorlee Dress [8] (£129)." — KK

Zara High Heel Metallic Mules

"Well, my fashion spending ban lifted faster than I could say Zara High Heel Metallic Mules [9] (£40), which is exactly what I'll be breaking said ban for. The perfect kitten heel height, strong detail and not too fussy. All in all, they're perfect. Bravo again, Zara, for making me realise I have zero willpower." — Tori Crowther, assistant editor

&other Stories Scallop Edge Jumpsuit

"I'm obsessed with green, especially the jewel tone of this &other Stories Scallop Edge Jumpsuit [10] (£89). I'm picturing it with a postholiday glow and statement gold earrings. & Other Stories are really killing the game with their Spring/Summer 2019 range — it's becoming my go to!" — Katie Jackson, brand partnerships manager

Topshop RIO Plum Toe Loop Sandals

"I recently bought these gorgeous Topshop RIO Plum Toe Loop Sandals [11] (£69) from Topshop, and I'm really struggling to take them off! They are so versatile, whether I need an evening heel or even if I want to look chic and put-together during the day, they go perfectly with everything. I know a square-shaped shoe is so on-trend right now, and although I don't follow trends closely, they make your feet look so good." — Kiri Paul, sales planner

Zara Rustic Wrap Jumpsuit

"You just can't beat the comfort of a jumpsuit, and I love that Zara keep things simple yet stylish with this Zara Rustic Wrap Jumpsuit [12] (£50)! Light and airy for any future heatwaves or last minute Summer holidays. I can't wait to wear this with some chunky gold statement jewellery!" — Carly Ancell, senior manager brand partnerships

Topshop GRACE Turquoise Acrylic Grab Bag

"Look how pretty!!!!!! I want a fun bag that will add a pop of colour to my outfit like this Topshop GRACE Turquoise Acrylic Grab Bag [13] (£27). It's a nod to the tortoiseshell trend without going for the brown/black combo, which isn't really my colour palette." — Charlotte Kirby, senior account manager

RtA Flynn Top

"I recently shared my love of Hawaiian shirts with the world [14] — a love that was reignited by Jim Hopper's wardrobe in the third season of Stranger Things [15]. I love the idea of pairing one with either my high-waisted Levi's or my favourite pair of slouchy denim shorts. This bold, red RtA Flynn Top [16] (£176, originally £305) from Revolve is perfect because it's long enough to tuck in but not so baggy that I look like I'm wearing my dad's shirt from the '80s." — SP

A.P.C Half-Moon Bag

"This A.P.C Half-Moon Bag [17] (£342) has been on my wish list for so long! I really want to invest in a high-end crossbody bag without breaking the bank too much. I am not into heavily branded bags, so this minimal leather number is perfect and goes with everything." — KP

Barry's Stronger As One Bra

"The lululemon x Barry's Stronger As One Bra [18] (£58) is — as far as I'm concerned — the perfect shape for a medium-support sports bra. [19] With a high neck that stops anything from falling out while you exercise, and a long-line cut that sits about an inch above my high-waisted leggings, it's flattering, and I feel supported while working up a sweat in it." — AL

Orelia Gold Plated Bamboo Initial Necklace

"Ever since Meghan Markle stepped out wearing a dainty initial necklace [20], I've been on the hunt for a cute one for myself. What can I say, I'm a victim to the Meghan fashion effect. Although the dainty ones are adorable, I couldn't help but fall for the Orelia Gold Plated Bamboo Initial Necklace [21] (£18)." — TC

Cath Kidston x Jungle Book Jungle Flowers Maxi Dress

"'Oh, that's a cute little midi dress!' I hear you cry. But look closer, friends, because nestled in among those flowers are little Baloos and Bagheeras! This Disney collab may not be to everyone's taste, but I love the combination of a modest, grown-up dress and a fun nostalgic print like this Cath Kidston x Jungle Book Jungle Flowers Maxi Dress [22] (£85). Go ahead and tell me I'm too old for this sh*t and hear me roar like Shere Khan." — GC

Kurt Geiger Princely Flats

"I love how glam a pair of heels makes me feel. Whether it's an ankle boot, a sandal, or a stiletto heel, a little height instantly makes me feel more polished and put-together. But for those days that I want to take it easy, these Kurt Geiger Princely Flats [23] (£129) are ideal. The diamanté straps adds the perfect amount of sparkle to dress up a casual outfit." — KK

RHODE Ella Mini Dress

"I haven't bought much this Summer (one of my resolutions this year was to limit the number of frivolous purchases I was making), but everything that I've bought so far has been floral print. I'm obsessed with the print of this RHODE Ella Mini Dress [24] (£305), which has a bit of a vintage '70s feel and the fact that the full, pleated skirt perfectly balances out the short hemline." — SP

Tibi Hunter Leather Slides

"Tibi Hunter Leather Slides [25] (£475) are possibly the prettiest slides I've ever seen. Unless I miraculously come into a wodge of money (Love Island 2020?), I probably won't be spending half a month's rent on these slides, but I will stare at them and instead treat myself to a white pedicure like the Net-a-Porter model and dream of these while they sit in my wish list." — TC

Zara Shirt with Cutwork Embroidery

"I've been eyeing up this Zara Shirt with Cutwork Embroidery [26] (£30) for a while now — it's giving me all the Isabel Marant vibes, which if you don't know already, I love! It's a different take on your normal black blouse with the puffed three-quarter sleeves and ruffle trims. I can't wait to dress this up or down, and I think it will make a great addition to my current blouse collection." — KP

Bershka Animal Print High Heels

"I bought these Bershka Animal Print High Heels [27] (£23) a couple of weeks ago to wear to a wedding I'm attending. Since then, I'm struggling to find reasons to take them off — they may just be the most comfortable shoes I own. If that's not enough, they also come in a leg-lengthening colour tone and are under £25!" — KJ

Monki Wide Fitting Jumpsuit

"Few things get as many compliments as my bold navy and cream printed Monki Wide Fitting Jumpsuit [28] (£35). It's generously cut, with cropped legs and three-quarter sleeves and works perfectly in just about any weather. Though the notched-collar version I have is no longer available, a shirt-style version is, and it now comes in a wonderfully over-the-top camo print. It's just what the doctor ordered for the final days of Summer!" — GC

All Saints Captain Lea Crossbody Bag

"One of the challenges I set myself for 2019 was to avoid fashion trends and invest in timeless — and practical — wardrobe pieces that will last multiple seasons. Since there's nothing more timeless than a basic black leather handbag, I invested in this All Saints Captain Lea Crossbody Bag [29] (£148), and I'll be wearing it every day in August. The leather is soft, the zipper is sturdy, and I love that the strap shortens more than other crossbody bags that I've owned in the past (a necessity, since I'm only 5'2")." — AL
