Elie Saab Takes Us on a Voyage Under the Sea For Spring 2015
Elie Saab invited us to take a dive into the ocean for Spring 2015, with a collection that paid homage to the wonders of the deep. Tropical reef colours were never in short supply with plenty of coral, orange, and yellow, plus all the shades of sea water, from a crisp azure inspired by the Amalfi Coast through to the rich greens of the Andaman Sea. White punctuated this, encrusted as revealing lace and embroidery across evening gowns that would easily double up as wedding dresses.
Saab stuck to his trademarks when it came to silhouettes, with plenty of chiffon evening gowns with thigh-high splits and shoulder-baring necklines, chic lace cocktail dresses, slinky jumpsuits, and slim trousers with matching tops. There were also surprise, modern shapes with a sporty feel, such as lace-trimmed bomber jackets and playsuits. Dégradé hemlines made dresses look as if they had been dipped in the sea, while the modern laces were supposed to look as if the salt water had worn them away.
To echo the oceanic theme, models finished their outfits with hard clutch bags covered with textured bubbles and shimmering strappy sandals in the iridescent green/blue hue of tropical fish scales. We're prone to agree with Sebastian the crab on this one: life truly is better under the sea.
