Don't Donate Those Velvets Yet, According to Erdem You'll Still Want Them Next Winter
With his predilection for long sleeves, high necks, ankle-length hemlines, and rich fabrications, an Autumn/Winter Erdem show is always something special, and this season was no exception. Turning to the Ottoman Empire (amongst other things) for inspiration, this was a sumptuous show full of velvet, weighty brocade separates, richly-printed dresses, and coats we'd struggle to ever want to take off.
Case in point: a tan edge-to-edge number with cream embroidery worn loose over a matching belted tunic by Erin O'Connor. Or a bold yellow double-breasted coat with a superwide lapel. There were plenty of memorable dresses that will be snapped up by celebrity fans of the brand, too. Paging Ruth Negga, we just found your next party dress, an aubergine sequinned ankle-skimmer with puffed 3/4 sleeves and silver embellishment that perfectly fits that well-honed, edgy red carpet aesthetic. Also worth noting were the bohemian velvet midi dresses, especially one in a luxurious indigo burnout velvet that would be perfect on Alexa Chung. One thing's for sure, if you invested in velvet over the last few months, store those Winter buys away safely. You will definitely see the fabric returning for another season!
