After Years of Searching, I Finally Found the Perfect Jeans For My Pear-Shaped Frame

Shopping for jeans is not usually my idea of a good time. My bottom-heavy body type [1] often means that finding denim that fits (and isn't several hundred dollars) is about as easy as climbing Mt. Everest. Fine, that's a bit dramatic, but it's rough. If a pair happens to fit me like a glove in the leg and butt area, it almost always leaves a massive gap at the waistline. On the other hand, if a pair cinches in perfectly at my waist, I usually find that means sacrificing blood circulation to my lower limbs.

After recently wearing my last pair of ill-fitting black denim into the ground, I knew I had no choice; it was time to go hunting for new jeans. Several friends had been raving nonstop about their positive experiences with eco-conscious retail brand Everlane [3], so I skimmed its site and came across the Kick Crop Jean [4]. I'm 5'3", so the ankle-grazing length of this particular style immediately caught my eye, not to mention the raw hem and slight flare that were described as "leg-lengthening." At $78 per pair, I decided the price was reasonable enough to take a gamble on them.

To my fellow pear-shaped people: if you're putting off replacing old jeans or mixing up your denim game because the experience of finding ones that fit is often miserable, give these babies a try.

When they arrived a few days later, I immediately fell in love with them at first wear. Despite purchasing a size down from my usual (I must have been feeling especially confident the day I ordered), these fit over my legs and butt easily without losing that snug, high-rise fit at the waist I'd been looking for. They loosened (ever so slightly!) in the butt and leg region throughout the day, but never expanded enough to feel remotely baggy. The raw hem gave even my simplest outfits a fun element of detail and the black hue was perfect for dressing up or down.

I currently own these jeans in the one black colourway, but I plan on picking them up in the light blue and white versions; I just can't bring myself to wear any other pants these days. To my fellow pear-shaped people: if you're putting off replacing old jeans or mixing up your denim game [5] because the experience of finding pairs that fit is often miserable, give these babies a try. They're a denim miracle!
