Last week's Hilfiger Sessions had a varied guest list ranging from Jaime Winstone to Amy Molyneaux to the stylist Richard Shoyemi. Shoyemi is only 21 but has already styled many music videos and celebrities (including Ashanti) and won London’s Young Fashion Designer award for 2004/05.
He was very happy to speak to us and told us about his eclectic ensemble, why he thinks music and fashion are so linked and his predictions for Autumn.
Hi, nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you, I’m loving it! (referring to outfit)
Thank you! I’m loving you too. Can you please just describe what you’re wearing?
A sequined jacket with leopard print, a YSL shirt from Absolute Vintage, Black patent trousers that I stitched up today quickly and Swear of London trainers.
Who are you looking forward to seeing?
John Legend because I love his music and I think he’s fantastic.
To find out how Shoyemi would style John Legend and for his thought on music and fashion read more.
Would you like to style him?
To some extent.
How would you restyle him?
I’d give him his own element and take what he already has but polish it.
Which autumn trends are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about Ashish’s collection, that’s going to be fantastic.
Why do you think that fashion and music are always so linked?
I always say that fashion and music go hand in hand with each other so it is one of those things that you need one or the other. And for me I always find that music inspires my shoots and working on videos and so forth. I think it’s very, very important for inspiration and growth.
Any musical artists that you’d really like to style?
There’s one artist that I want to be a part of and that’s Michael Jackson. I want to rebuild him and be a part of his stageshows.
