Arguably the last British couture house, Hardy Amies, sadly went in to administration on Friday. The Saville Row based brand was under the guidance of Ian Garlant following Aimes death in 2003. In the past few weeks it became apparent that the house was struggling financially but it was hoping for a new financial backer.
Hardy Aimes was born in West London in 1909, opened his first couture house in 1947 and became Queen Elizabeth II's official dressmaker in 1955. He also later designed for Princess Diana and was knighted in 1996.
