Bow Down to House of Holland's Backstage Flappers
We'd love to get inside the mind of Henry Holland, because there's clearly a lot going on in there. The House of Holland Autumn/Winter show gave a whole new meaning to the word "busy," showcasing everything from polka-dot pajamas to screen prints of Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Debbie Harry. There were obvious Courtney Love influences in the slip dresses, lace separates, and faux fur coats, but there was also a strong '20s feel to the beaded fringing. Penny Lane would have been happy in any number of the more '70s-inspired pieces, and kitsch fans will love the sparkly flying-saucer embellishments (or are they jellyfish?).
The show name gave the game away. These were House of Holland's "Backstage Flappers": glam rock groupies with a vintage obsession. One day they might want head-to-toe denim, the next a sparkling two-piece . . . and this collection gave them the lot. It's only a matter of time before one of Henry's It-girl friends sports a Cher dress to a red carpet event, and we can't wait to be there to see it.
