How to Wear Fall Fashion Trends 2019

How to Wear Fall’s Biggest Trends IRL

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

When we watch everything from silk midi skirts to boyfriend jeans; tulle ballgowns and cashmere knits alike walk the runways from season to season, we are immediately hit with the urge to try it all. And then, as visible trends begin to emerge, we're even more excited to start shopping for the most popular looks of the season and incorporate them into our own seasonal wardrobes. The only problem is, translating a runway look to the streets of the concrete jungle you call home isn't all that easy. Sure, you can always take cues from a colour palette or material, but we want to make sure you're able to go well beyond the basics, especially this Fall. Ahead, find the biggest runway trends of the Fall 2019 season and how we're wearing them in our own lives.

Edgy Black Lace: On The Runway

Designers like Preen by Thonton Bregazzi took the ultimate in dainty feminine trends and turned it on its head. In a deep black tone, the romantic nature of sheer lace is made more edgy and strong than ever before.

Edgy Black Lace: On The Street

To incorporate this look into your own closet, consider pairing it with softer tones to re-introduce that feminine nature that's so integral in the lace material.

Sweater Dressing: On The Runway

While knitwear is always a huge seasonal trend, designers such as Bottega Veneta suggested that we wear it in new and interesting ways. Why settle for a cardigan or turtleneck when you can choose a dress or skirt instead?

Sweater Dressing: On The Street

This fall, pair knits with knits by opting for a sweater-style midi skirt and styling it with a brightly coloured oversized sweater on top.

Tie-Dye: On The Runway

Tie-dye hit it big for Spring, but Fall collection like that from Prabal Gurung reminded us that the colourful trend has a place in our colder-weather wardrobes as well.

Tie-Dye: On The Street

We love the idea of turning tie-dye into a more elevated look by way of midi dress silhouettes and elegant fabrics like silk and cashmere.

Victorian-Inspired: On The Runway

Brock Collection is one of the leaders when it comes to that Victorian-inspired look and the design duo has shown us that the sky is the limit when it comes to ruffles, brocades, corsets, and more for Fall.

Victorian-Inspired: On The Street

While the Victorian trend can seem overly stuffy at times, consider mixing brocade tops with jeans, layering corsets over more casual wears, and opting for fabrics like silk chiffon that have a little more movement to them.

Utility Jumpsuits: On The Runway

A one-and-done look is always welcome and, by way of the utility jumpsuit, designers like Christian Wijnants has proven that the ease-of-wear is alive and well in the Fall wardrobes of every fashion-loving girl this season.

Utility Jupsuits: On The Street

Casual as the utility jumpsuit might be (and we fully embrace styling it with sneakers or ankle booties!), consider pairing it with a block heel and structured bag to kick the look up a notch this season.

After-Hours Suiting: On The Runway

We're all about the borrowed-from-the-boys suiting look, but it's fully exploded in the after-hours thanks to the likes of Saint Laurent and more. Whether white or black, go sleek or go home this Fall with your suiting that's fit for the most stylish of parties.

Image Source: Getty / Yanshan Zhang

After-Hours Suiting: On The Street

Don't be afraid to show a little skin with your suiting look, as long as the activity allows. Slip into a crop top or bralette underneath your fanciest of tuxes for a masculine-meets-feminine look that wows.

'70s Euro: On The Runway

'70s Euro: On The Street

Keep it classic and simple this Fall by mixing and matching your most timeless of pieces. Midi skirts, khaki pants, blazers, and more are about to become your ultimate wardrobe staples this season.

Shades of Green: On The Runway

Each season, there's a single colour that seems to stand out among the crowd and Fall 2019 is calling for green—in every tone, silhouette, and material. Designers like Veronica Beard proved that there's no limit to what can be styled in everything from emerald to hunter and beyond.

Shades of Green: On The Street

We love a contrasting colour when it comes to our green wears this Fall, incorporating everything from light-catching metallics to bright pops of pink in our otherwise monochromatic looks.

Daytime Sequins: On The Runway

Sequins for daytime are back and Sally LaPointe has proved that there's nearly nowhere that you can't wear the textured and flashy material. A personal favourite is this pair of high-waisted pants, effortlessly paired with a slouchy cashmere knit.

Image Source: Getty / Mike Coppola

Daytime Sequins: On The Street

Don't be afraid to mix high and low this Fall, especially when it comes to sequins. One of our favourite looks to-date is the sequin skirt and T-shirt combo that you can wear morning, noon, and night…all year long.

Quilting: On The Runway

Quilting is not just fit for a down puffer, especially if Oscar de la Renta has anything to say for it. While you might not specifically be in the market for a strapless ball gown, it sure does look awesome to mix that unique texture into an otherwise Old Hollywood-inspired look.

Image Source: Getty / Slaven Vlasic

Quilting: On The Street

We love a contrast between the nature of a quilted texture and the silhouette in question, opting for ultra-feminine tops, mini skirts, and more that follow the seasonal trend.
