The Industry Considers These Models Plus-Size — But Do You?
It seems like every week, there's a new story involving the term "plus-size": campaigns that promote body diversity, such as Lane Bryant's #ImNoAngel and Swimsuitforall's unretouched ads. Tess Holiday getting signed to a major agency at size 22. Even on social media, movements like #droptheplus and #plussizeplease are going viral. But what's it really like to work in an industry that still views size 0 as the norm? Well, it seems we're all about to find out.
Set for release in September 2016, a documentary called Straight/Curve follows a handful of successful, curvy models and other industry influencers. The mission? Shedding some light on what the director Jenny McQuaile tells Glamour is "a complex relationship between the fashion industry, the media, and body image." In the preview alone, the women talk about eating disorders and the dangers of not having all body types represented in media.
