Jean Paul Gaultier at Couture Fashion Week, Spring 2010

2010 Spring Couture: Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier always seems to have fun with his designs and this Spring couture collection was no exception. Like everybody else right now, Gaultier wanted to talk about Avatar when it came to inspiration. He explained, "I saw 'Avatar' and, like everyone, found it extraordinary. And from there, I began thinking of nature and ecology, and the Latin American tropics and from there it was not very far to Mexico." There was a showgirl feel to the collection with plenty of big hats and dramatic accessories. Typically for Gaultier, there were androgynous elements particularly in the tailoring where corset detailing was worked in to jackets. The Mexican undertones of the collection were confirmed at the end as singer Arielle Dombasle walked out to lip-synch her own recording of “Cucurrucucu Paloma".
