Au Revoir, Gaultier: Jean Paul Goes Out With a Bang
When a master showman like Jean Paul Gaultier announces that his Spring 2015 show will be his last ready-to-wear collection (he'll focus on Haute Couture, to follow), you know you're in for theatrics. Supermodels? Check. Celebrity guests? Check. Over-the-top fashion? Check. A full-fledged beauty pageant? Well, that's one we didn't see coming.
True to form, Gaultier went out on a high note. At his final Prêt-à-Porter show in Paris today, the designer set the stage (literally) at Le Grand Rex — marquee and all! And, because a runway titled "Miss JPG," is clearly about the women, Gaultier delivered on the model front as well. Whether or not they wore masks, the ladies (and their ornate fashions) truly shined, nearly enough to overtake the confetti finale. Bravo, Gaultier.
