Fashion loves a good mashup, but when Jenny Packham's show notes for her Spring 2014 presentation promised a "'70s take on austere Edwardian attire," we were sceptical. Then we saw the first look, a mustard yellow shift dress embellished with traditional silver marbles and pearls, and got the idea.
Watching this runway, it was hard not to squint and imagine The Duchess of Cambridge, a faithful customer of the British designer, wearing the gowns. We see her most in the long-sleeved baby blue dress with a tulle overlay of soft pink stripes of Swarovski beading. And the dusty peach silk gown cinched with a marching satin ribbon. And, maybe if the duchess is so bold, the spearmint off-the-shoulder leotard with that sheer leg moment. Now that would be quite the Packham mashup.
