Julien Macdonald Has Us Wondering If We Can Borrow From the Boys?
Julien Macdonald's Autumn/Winter 2017 collection wasn't short of the slinky embellished catsuits, cobweb knits, and cutout dresses he is known for, but we still found ourselves wondering whether the men's clothes come in a size small? While there may be few men brave enough to try a sporty zip-up knit covered in silver shoulder armour or a skintight top with sheer panels around the shoulders and arms, we definitely would. From jewel-encrusted blazers to embellished knits, the men's looks were born to be borrowed, zipped over a party dress at the end of the big night or used to dress up a street-style-inspired '90s denim look.
When it came to womenswear, Macdonald threw in plenty of references to the late '90s and early '00s with this collection, where shoulders and hipbones were the erogenous zones, models wore their hair in mussed-up waves and smeared smoky shadow right up to the brows (a look that's peak Kate Moss). The colour palette? Black, red, and metallic, of course!
This is a designer who knows exactly what his customers want, and celeb fans like Selena Gomez, Emily Ratajkowski, and Jennifer Lopez definitely won't struggle to find their next showstopping red carpet look in this line-up. It's only going to be a matter of weeks before we spy Winnie Harlow's closing look on the red carpet.
