For Spring 2019, Kate Spade Went Back to Its Beginnings

07/09/2018 - 06:38 PM

Kate Spade's Spring 2019 fashion show, which took place at the historic New York Public Library, was the perfect mix of old and new. For starters, it was the debut for recently-appointed creative director Nicola Glass [1], who succeeded Deborah Lloyd at the end of 2017. The designs, however, were classic Kate Spade, full of pastel colours, tons of neck-ties, and mixed, whimsical prints. The pieces were purposefully meant to be a nod to Kate Spade's origins [2] — something that felt especially touching following the iconic designer's death [3] earlier this year.

It should come as no surprise that some of what really stood out were the accessories. Models wore kerchiefs around their heads, there tons of large, colourful sunglasses, and we're predicting that a particular bag style, made from interlocked spades [4] and already available to shop on Kate Spade's site [5], will be a hot-ticket item.
