Let's Hear It For New York! DKNY Pays Homage to the Empire City
New Yorkers can get a bad rap. They're not friendly, they wear too much black, but even their cynical hearts were warmed by Donna Karan embracing NYC as the ultimate melting pot city where dreams can come true. The DKNY Autumn/Winter 2014 show opened with a video of New Yorkers discussing what they loved about the city, and then the models — and nonmodels — hit the runway in urban finery. From Hannah Bronfman to artists and pro skateboarders, real people walked alongside top models in sporty styles that used the logo in a new and fresh way, blanket capes to arm you against the never-ending NYC Winter, faux and real shearling mixed together in textural ways, and a shock of pink that would have made Carrie Bradshaw utter, "Hello, lover." The standouts were the sporty pieces like varsity jackets and sweatshirts decked with glittering arms of sequins, perfect for living in a city where every day seems to be work to play and back.
