Love it or hate it, we have a feeling you can probably thank Madonna for Rihanna's 2009 Met Gala ensemble. In an exclusive Style.com interview, Rihanna's then-stylist-team, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, called out the singer's Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo as one of her finest red carpet moments, before revealing that it almost never happened. "That was a special moment because we went completely rogue," Mariel said. "It was a Marc Jacobs year, and we got a call 30 minutes prior that so-and-so was wearing the same boots we'd planned on putting Ri in. So last minute, we went for plan B, and plan B ended up being this complete outlaw moment for both Rihanna and in Met history. It was something special."
Well, the only Marc Jacobs boots we remember at the 2009 Met Gala were the thigh-high Louis Vuitton pair Madonna oh-so-famously donned. Which means, if our instincts are correct, Rihanna could have gone down in history in a pair of teal bunny ears. Need a reminder of how that red carpet played out?
