Manolo Blahnik Debuts at New York Fashion Week, Makes Dreams Come True
When Manolo Blahnik announced that he would host a presentation at New York Fashion Week for the first time ever, we made sure to rearrange our schedules to be there. And are we glad we did.
The installation of shoes — which ranged from wooden sandals to decadent Victorian heels complete with buttons and swirled embroidery — was staged as if each pair were a set of musical notes in a sweet melody, with some suspended in air and others at eye level as if to encourage viewing from all angles. And each pair was music to our feet. Flats in every colour of the rainbow might make for a more practical investment, but it was the ornamental heels — more works of art than footwear — that caused us to pause. The copper medallions on a pair of lace-up boots, the sweet bows at the tip of mod polka-dot pumps, and the tactile fun of the pink pom pom shoes . . . we loved them all. And the crystal embroidered pink satin bootie was one of Manolo's favourites but also one of ours. We couldn't have dreamt up anything better.
