Take a Trip Back to Your Childhood With Mary Katrantzou
London Fashion Week's third day opened with a serious nostalgia trip. Imagine all your favourite childhood pastimes, brought to life in clothes you can wear as an adult. That's the idea behind Mary Katrantzou's Spring 2018 collection, where paint-by-numbers, Lego bricks, and friendship bracelets provided inspiration for the intricate prints and embellishment that covered the designer's bright-coloured confections. Childhood camping trips and outdoor pursuits also came into play, with bright nylon coats reminiscent of kites or tents, and toggles giving style balloon-like volume.
Eighties kids like Katrantzou herself will have no problem spotting the cute references, from hama beads to Spirograph and even bubble-wrap-inspired matelassé. And the accessories? Let's just say we never knew we needed a flamingo armband handbag until this morning!
