Prepare to Party During Matthew Williamson's Long Hot Summer
David Bailey's photographs of Marie Helvin in his book Chasing Rainbows were the starting point for Matthew Williamson's Spring 2015 collection. The look was pure '70s luxe, from the belted long-sleeved chiffon midi dresses to the disco sequinned cutout maxis. The colour palette spanned the usual rich, jewel tones for which the designer is known, focussing on berry hues, shades of blue, deep green, pale pink, and lemon. And there were plenty of breezy boho dresses, too, perfect for the "long hot Summer" cited by the designer in his show notes.
This was Williamson at his best, and the designer's fans will no doubt love the feather-trimmed sparkling minidress (featuring over 200,000 sequins), the belted pyjama suit with appliqué detail, and the clashing prints on sexy blouses, pencil skirts, and 3D-detail bandeau tops. Look out for climbing hibiscus and ikat prints, and start saving for your very own flamenco frilled maxi skirt immediately!
