Prince Harry and Meghan Markle began Monday's Commonwealth Day celebrations with a visit to Canada House in London. As the president and vice president of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, the day is special to the couple, and this year, their focus will be on celebrating Canadians living in the UK.

Meghan, who will soon pause her royal duties and go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of the couple's first child, arrived in London's Trafalgar Square wearing a gorgeous green coat with black beaded embellishment by Erdem. The colour was a suitably festive choice, given that it's also St. Patrick's Day later in the week, but there was a deeper significance to this specific choice: though Erdem is a London-based label, designer Erdem Moralioglu was actually born in Montreal, Canada. The coat really did tell the story of Meghan's day.

The coat was adapted from a design shown at London Fashion Week in February, with slightly fewer embellishments and a more 1960s-inspired swing shape. The duchess teamed it with a pair of black Aquazzura pumps and a small black box clutch. Take a closer look for yourself ahead, and see the coat as it was shown on the runway, too.
