The Relationship Between Fashion and Film Reaches New Heights
Fashion and film have always been closely tied, and nobody knows that better than Colin Firth. After all, he starred in what was probably one of the most stylish contemporary films ever: A Single Man, a film by Tom Ford, who is better known for his dresses than his directing.
But Firth's latest project takes the fusion of fashion and film to extremes. Kingsman: The Secret Service, is the slick, comic tale of sharp, Savile Row-suited spies taking down threats and hiring new recruits. The tailoring is as much a part of the story as the stunts, something that didn't fail to escape the notice of the menswear experts at Mr Porter. The result is a collaborative collection inspired by the film, using heritage British brands that fit the ethos of both the film and the luxury retailer. We've seen film-inspired collections before but nothing quite so comprehensive as this range, which offers everything for the gentleman spy, from velour smoking jackets to tortoiseshell glasses. As London celebrates the end of its men's fashion week, the capital is buzzing with all things menswear and the launch of this range just capitalises on that. There's even a special trailer for the collection using footage from the film. See that, plus the full collection and pictures from last night's world premiere as you read on.
