Take a Trip to Mulberry's English Country Garden
Mulberry invited us into an English country garden for its London Fashion Week presentation this season. The collection was inspired by three British flowers: delphiniums, cornflowers, and cow parsley, all of which inspired the clothing, from the soft blue colours to the scratchy floral prints. Dresses had a '30s influence, with midi hems and fluted sleeves, though occasional unexpected fabrications like laser-cut leather ensured they didn't look old-fashioned. Along with all this floral prettiness came a more utilitarian edge, as Mulberry knows better than anyone that any British heritage line needs to consider the weather! There were plenty of practical pieces that could be worn immediately, from boxy jackets inspired by gardeners to luxury wellies with floral brocade inserts.
On the accessories front, as well as clog shoes, a new range of dog leads, and plenty of luxury leather goods, look out for Spring's new handbags including the Delphie, an ingenious two-in-one handbag with a multiway strap and a special wraparound convertible flap that allows you to wear one bag in two colour ways. It comes in woven leather, grass green suede, and luxury crocodile-cut calf leather versions, to name but a few.
