14/10/2018 - 10:50 PM

Over the past few months, we've truly enjoyed watching Meghan Markle [1] transition into her new role [2] as Duchess of Sussex. While the world has mainly been focused on her enviable (and sometimes rule breaking [3]) wardrobe, we also couldn't help but notice how Prince Harry seems to have upped his fashion game since he struck up a relationship [4] with the former actress. During his numerous official outings, Harry has consistently impressed with his smart, tailored outfits, which all follow six simple rules. From his favourite type of jumper to his wardrobe's precise colour palette, read on to get a closer look at what it takes to dress like a prince.

Rolled Up Sleeves For a More Casual Look

Prince Harry generally wears shirts to official events. However, he has found a very simple way of making them look a little more casual: rolling up the sleeves.

When he gave a speech at WE Day during the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017, Prince Harry wore a navy shirt with grey trousers and a brown belt.

During the launch of the 2017 Invictus Games, Harry rolled up the sleeves of his black shirt, which he wore with khaki trousers.

For a day at the polo, the prince wore a black shirt and white trousers.

He once again rolled up the sleeves of his blue shirt when he visited StreetGames' Fit and Fed in London.

Perfectly Cut Suits

If there's one thing Prince Harry knows how to choose, it's perfectly cut suits. When he officially announced his engagement, the 33-year-old wore a blue two piece over a white shirt and black tie, while Meghan chose a white trench coat from Line the Label [6], a green dress from Parosh [7], and Aquazzura pumps.

When he attended the Invictus Games Reception in April 2018, Harry wore a dark blue suit with a white shirt and grey tie, while Meghan stunned in a floral Self Portrait dress [8].

For a concert celebrating the queen's 92nd birthday, Harry wore another blue suit which perfectly matched with Meghan's Stella McCartney cape dress [9].

Prince Harry once again turned to blue when he attended the 2018 Commonwealth Day service in London. Meghan wore a matching Amanda Wakeley dress [10] with a cream coat from the same brand, and she accessorised her outfit with a custom Stephen Jones hat [11], a small Mulberry satchel, and suede Manolo Blahnik pumps [12].

When he attended the Endeavour Fund Awards with Meghan Markle [13], Prince Harry wore yet another perfectly tailored blue suit. For the occasion, the Duchess of Sussex wore a black pantsuit by Alexander McQueen [14].

Long Tailored Coats

Prince Harry has an outerwear collection that could easily rival Kate Middleton's [15]. The 33-year-old generally opts for long, dark coats, and even matches with his wife from time to time.

For a day in Nottingham, Harry wore a long navy coat, and Meghan opted for a matching Mackage piece [16].

For the Christmas Day church service in Sandringham, Harry wore a grey coat, while Meghan opted for a camel Sentaler piece, which she accessorised with a brown fascinator, matching gloves, over-the-knee Stuart Weitzman boots, and an eye-catching Chloé bag [17].

Round Neck Jumpers

Precise Colour Palette

Prince Harry's wardrobe is undoubtedly smart, and a lot of it has to do with the colour palette that he works with. While the Queen is known for her love of bright colours [24], the Duke of Sussex mainly wears blue, black, grey, white, brown, and khaki.
