LOL, The Queen Met Donald Trump Wearing a Ruby Tiara Meant to Ward Off Evil

Queen Elizabeth's Burmese Ruby Tiara With Donald Trump

If there's anyone who knows how to rock a tiara and look like a boss doing it, it's Queen Elizabeth II. But some people seem to be convinced that the Queen's latest tiara look made more than just a stylish statement. While attending the state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, the Queen met with President Donald Trump. She wore a white beaded dress and a blue sash, which she accessorised with a ruby necklace, matching ruby earrings, and Burmese ruby-encrusted tiara — a tiara that Twitter seems to believe might actually have been a dig at Trump because of the meaning behind it.

The tiara, which Queen Elizabeth II commissioned by the House of Garrard in 1973, according to Women's Wear Daily, consists of 96 rubies surrounded by several white diamonds. "Rubies in Burmese culture protect from illness and evil, in this case to protect the wearer from the 96 diseases that can afflict humans," the House of Garrard said in a memo. "The rubies and diamonds are set in a series of rose motifs inspired by the Tudor Rose, the heraldic symbol of Britain."

Because of the tiara's symbolic meaning, Twitter users have speculated that the Queen made a deliberate choice to wear the accessory during her meeting with the president to "ward away evil." While we can't be completely sure whether the Queen was really trying to throw shade, it seems pretty unlikely, especially considering the purpose of the banquet itself.

"The purpose of a state visit is to make the guest feel as welcome as possible," said royal commentator Victoria Arbiter in a Twitter thread. "It's about reaffirming relationships and it is the Queen's constitutional duty to lead the visit regardless of how controversial the figure might be." Still, that hasn't stopped Twitter users from having a good cackle. Check out the hilarious reactions and catch a glimpse at the Queen's full look ahead.
