Serious Luxury From Erdem's Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection
There's nothing subtle about the luxury in Erdem Moralioglu's Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, which he presented Monday in the old Selfridges hotel in London. The offering was filled to the brim with glorious fabrication: rich silks, rhinestones covering matelassé frocks, coats and dresses cut from shiny black crocodile, and plumes of feathers turned into fleurs-de-lis on sheer bodices and pinned down with even more shiny rocks.
Luxe fabrics, of course, are nothing new for Moralioglu, but if in the past his collections have been playful, this one was contemplative and almost stern in a way. But if any designer is intelligent enough to make floral prints look contemplative, it's this one.
