Simone Rocha Takes the Rough With the Smooth at London Fashion Week
Simone Rocha has fine-tuned a look that's instantly recognisable since joining the London Fashion Week roster in 2010. She has a knack with taking overtly feminine looks and giving them an edgy modern twist, succeeding in making things feel cool and current even when the influence is so clearly historical. This season, her fallen heiresses teamed their delicate, ornate fabrics with heavier pieces: tweed coats, double-breasted pea coats, and chunky knits. Soft pink dresses were topped with black neckties, and spiderweb lace skirts were matched with sheer chiffon blouses. Where Rocha has often relied on dresses to do the talking in previous shows, this time the coats were key: from a pale yellow number gathered at the knees, to the closing series of textured black coats that were artfully slouched over the models. You'll want one in your wardrobe immediately.
