Stéphane Rolland's Couture Girls Were in Full Bloom
It seems Stéphane Rolland may have harked back to his roots in costume design for his Spring 2014 couture collection, as the variety of flame-hued gowns that made up the second half of the show wouldn't look out of place on Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire. In truth, the voluminous creations were less Capitol couture, more organic chic. They took their inspiration from nature: one buttercup-coloured, bloomed gown was like a Georgia O'Keeffe painting come to life. Structure and sculpture formed the basis of the collection, which had a strict colour palette of black, white, and yellow/orange. Fabrics included sheer chiffons and silks, crepe, organza, and lots of PVC for detail. These were not designs for shrinking violets, and with Kim Kardashian in the front row, we expected no less. No doubt that other big Rolland fan — Cheryl Cole — will be browsing the photos and making notes for Cannes immediately.
