Fashion often has a political edge, as we saw at Vivienne Westwood this week, but globalisation isn't always a bad thing on the catwalk as designer bring African-style prints to the mainstream. Designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar de la Renta (left) took inspiration from traditional fabrics to create distinctive summer dresses.
Pieces were updated with funky applique detail at D&G and Dries Van Noten where as more traditional feathers were used at Just Cavalli, and Emilio Pucci. The High Street has so far doesn't offer much (apart from Monsoon which is ahead of the game) but H&M and Warehouse will have pieces in time for the summer.
