First thing's first: inaugural poet Amanda Gorman [1] — who just signed with IMG Models as representation for her fashion endeavours — had that yellow Prada coat [2] way before she delivered "The Hill We Climb" at the inauguration [3]. The 22-year-old Harvard graduate, who was named the nation's first youth poet laureate in 2017, actually has a pretty good relationship with Miuccia Prada's Milan-based fashion house. Prada invited Gorman to speak at its "Shaping a Future" conference in 2019, where she delivered a speech about her thoughtful views on sustainability, and after sitting in the front row at the fall 2019 show, she wrote "A Poet's Prada" [4] as an ode to the fashion industry's major forces that must reflect on their power and environmental impact [5].
But Gorman is not all Prada and no play — she continues to reinvent the wheelhouse when it comes to styling outfits using pieces from her own closet, which she shares regularly on Instagram. "A mask is a girl's best friend," she recently captioned one outfit selfie in a powder pink coat and fuchsia accessories. Gorman is attracted to bright bursts of colour and retro silhouettes, not unlike The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel [6], who she dressed up as for Halloween [7] (FYI: she's also pretty tight with Rachel Brosnahan [8]). Gorman's worn ASOS on the red carpet — her feed is proof she has prowess at mixing high and low — and it's clear she chooses to support brands with a forward thinking mentality. Scroll down to reminisce about some of her best fashion moments to date, though, for as long as she continues to create and inspire [9], what she wears will, too. She'll make sure of it.
