Gemma Collins Proves She Was Born for Barbiecore in a Pink Co-Ord With Giant Bow

The Barbiecore Aesthetic Loved by Celebrities

Gemma Collins was born for Barbiecore. The reality star headed to a special screening of "Barbie" on 20 July in London, decked out head-to-toe in pink. The 42-year-old channelled Barbie vibes in a pink bardot trouser co-ord which was fit with a larger-than-life bow. Her Barbie-blonde locks were styled into her trademark tousled curls by hair stylist Amy Alice, whilst her doll-worthy makeup (complete with a slick of pink lipgloss, of course), was added by makeup artist Demi Simmonds.

Inspired by Greta Gerwig's upcoming "Barbie" movie, Barbiecore fashion is a wardrobe takeover of the pink hue. Think top-to-toe fuchsia, bubblegum, rose, and magenta, the bold look has taken over and celebrities are jumping on the Barbie bandwagon.

The former "The Only Way Is Essex" star has joined a lineup of celebrities who've recently popularised the fashion trend, including Simone Ashley, who recently took to the "The Little Mermaid" red carpet in a pink Versace minidress, while Maya Jama took the Barbiecore trend on holiday.

Elsewhere, the trend has been taken over by Lewis Hamilton, who was the face of last year's Valentino's Pink PP campaign. While Y2K trends have been very much in style, Barbiecore takes the kitschy aesthetic one step further. This is in reference not just to the bubblegum-pink red carpet looks we've seen from the likes of Maison Valentino and Miu Miu but also, more specifically, the colourful, textural combinations that are built upon the conventional characteristics of Mattel's quintessential American fashion doll. Barbie — brought to life in 1959 by Ruth Handler in a strapless, black-and-white-striped bathing suit, tiny gold hoops, and black heels — is today most synonymous with a look more akin to Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde."

This year, all-pink-everything Barbiecore encourages us to embrace that same sense of fearlessness and tap into the over-accessorised, monochromatic style. While piling on lots of pink is key, bold statement accessories such as towering platform heels, retro-shaped glasses, and gloves are not to be overlooked.

As excitement builds for the 21 July release of the highly anticipated film, starring Margot Robbie and a platinum-blonde Ryan Gosling, take a look at our favourite celebrity Barbiecore takes to date.
