The 2022 BRIT Awards [1] are a much-needed fashion indulgence. Unlike film and television award [2] red carpets, music award shows are dedicated to over-the-top celebrity outfits — and with stars like Adele [3], Little Simz, and Holly Humberstone leading the nominations, the looks promise to be dramatic, tailored, and a bit '90s.
Opening the red carpet was a daring, black Mônot two-piece set with zigzag hemlines worn by Maya Jama. Nominee Humberstone also brought a bit of '90s to the BRITs with a grunge-inspired black lace dress paired with feathered, arm-length cuffs. KSI kept it cool with an eclectic black harness worn over a smart grey suit, vertical split-hem trousers, and chunky platform shoes. And Anne-Marie switched it up with a minimal, black leather jacket, as opposed to her usual aesthetic of pastels and ribbons.
It seems like most of the stars got the memo for the architectural, "Matrix"-inspired aesthetic at the BRITs. Little Simz did it best in a fresh, lime green shirt, tailored black trousers, a long vintage, brushed leather coat, and a pair of sunglasses that even Morpheus would be entranced by. On the red carpet, cohost Nella Rose said to Simz about her style that "you always step outside of the box, and that is why you are as successful as you are today, even the drip. 'Can you explain to me the drip because even those that have Matrix, they don't Matrix like this?'" Simz humbly shared that her stylist Lucy Ellis "did me proper", and the look was courtesy of Prada.
