Popsugar Fashion Fashion Trends Best Place to Buy Mom Jeans Mom Jeans, We Love You, but Especially These 7 Pairs 26 August 2020 by Sarah Wasilak View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kathleen Thomas-Shearer (@kat.shearer) on Jan 21, 2020 at 5:57pm PST As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work. The mom jean has been a favourite of ours for a few years now, but particularly since we've been striving to re-create any and every '90s trend we possibly can. On paper, the mom jean doesn't necessarily sound flattering. It's got a high-rise fit, slightly tapered at the waist, with a long zipper and enough structure to make your booty look long and flat. The pant leg is straight or stiff, usually coming right to the ankle so you can show off a pair of proper '90s mom sneakers. (If you're going full-on mom with your denim, you might as well go mom from head to toe.) But once they're on, mom jeans make us feel great, and they look stylish, too. Some of our favourite ways to wear them include with a cropped cardigan set, an oversize blazer and belt, or a tucked-in white T-shirt, all of which draw attention to your midsection and highlight your frame. Even though we've had success with many pairs, we know you want to know about the best of the best, so we're naming our absolute favourite styles here. First, scroll through some of our favourite mom-jean styling inspiration in recent history, then shop editor-approved designs that you're sure to fall madly in love with, just like we did. The fit is high on the waist, without cinching too tightly — and while mom jeans have a reputation for giving the appearance of a 'pancake' bum, there's something really flattering about the way these sit on the rear and how they elongate the legs. Over time, they've gotten less rigid and stretched a bit with wear, so I'd recommend sizing down if you like 'em snug and staying true to size if you're happier to have a little give." — Hannah Weil McKinley, fashion director Agolde's Riley High Rise Crop Jeans $178 from shopbop.com Buy Now Madewell Women's Momjean Image Source: madewell.com "The Madewell Women's Momjean ($65, originally $80) will forever be my favourite. I'm a sucker for a style that's more rigid, so I do normally tend toward stiffer fabric. The Madewell mom jean is my one exception — they actually have a little give to them, but they don't get too stretched out over time so I barely ever have to wash them." — Sarah Wasilak, fashion editor Madewell Women's Momjean $65 from madewell.com Buy Now Topshop Bleach Stone Oversized Tapered Jeans Image Source: us.topshop.com "Women with hourglass figures will agree that finding flattering mom jeans is no easy feat! The Topshop Bleach Stone Oversized Tapered Jeans ($58) hit my waist and hips just right, plus the heavy denim feels more expensive than it actually is. These are my go-to everyday jeans, and I have them in a few washes. They look equally as cool with heels or sneakers." — Macy Cate Williams, senior editor, Shop Topshop Bleach Stone Oversized Tapered Jeans $58 from us.topshop.com Buy Now Levi's Ribcage Straight Ankle Women's Jeans Image Source: levi.com "When Levi's came out with the Ribcage Straight Ankle Women's Jeans ($98), I knew I had to try them because of the ultrahigh waist. As a short person at 5'1", I find that a high-rise gives off the illusion of longer legs, and this style does just that for me. If I wear these with a heeled bootie or sandal, I feel like I'm Kendall Jenner. Then I take them off and go back to being little old me. Still, these are my pretend supermodel jeans." — SW Ribcage Straight Ankle Women's Jeans $98 from levi.com Buy Now Agolde Lana Low Rise Vintage Straight Jeans Image Source: shopbop.com "Agolde has been my go-to brand as of recently. Its comfortable and stretchy fabric means I don't feel like I want to rip off my pants at the end of the day. The Agolde Lana Low Rise Vintage Straight Jeans ($188) have the perfect baggy fit that's not too much and has a cool, vintage feel." — Krista Jones, associate editor, Shop Agolde Lana Low Rise Vintage Straight Jeans $188 from shopbop.com Buy Now Aritzia Denim Forum The Farrah High Rise Jean Image Source: aritzia.com "For a mom jean, Aritzia's Denim Forum The Farrah High Rise Jean ($110) definitely has a slightly more '70s feel to it. The leg does flare out a bit more at the ankle, but if you prefer a baggier fit at the bottom, I highly recommend you try these, because you're still getting the classic high-rise fit in the booty and waist area. Trust me, my mom totally would have worn these jeans." — SW Denim Forum The Farrah High Rise Jean $110 from aritzia.com Buy Now 7 For All Mankind Josefina Jeans in Alta Blue Image Source: bloomingdales.com "I love these 7 For All Mankind Josefina Jeans in Alta Blue ($124, originally $165) because they are super stretchy and don't dig into my stomach. I've had them for over four years now, and anytime I have to wear jeans, I reach for these, just because of how comfortable they are." — Nikita Charuza, fashion editor 7 For All Mankind Josefina Jeans in Alta Blue $124 from bloomingdales.com Buy Now ShoppingFashion TrendsFashion ShoppingFashion InstagramsFallFall FashionEditor's PickDenimTopshop
