Printed Bowling Shirts Are My Go-To Summer Mood, and I'm Definitely Smiling

31/07/2020 - 06:50 PM

This summer, I've decided to wear the items in my closet that really, truly make me happy [1]. Since I've been spending most of my time at home, that does involve way more loungewear [2], and my hero piece just happens to be a printed bowling shirt. We're seeing these breezy tops pop up everywhere — styled in animal print over summer dresses or as cover-ups over ribbed bikinis [3]. Brands like Prada and Burberry have created their own signature iterations to make fashion fans swoon, either with logos or signature splashy patterns you'd recognise on your feed instantly.

Personally, I prefer a more oversize fit (regularly scoping out the men's section), because I feel like these are the relaxed answer to that flowy, beachy maxi dress I used to look forward to wearing. But I've been styling my own designs — from the likes of Duvin Design Co. [4] and Tombolo Company — with everything from bermuda sweat shorts to silk midi skirts with flat slides if I need to run a quick weekend errand. There are more affordable options where this retro surfer trend came from, though, and I rounded up a handful of some of the best graphics and stripes I've seen so far. First, scroll through to find some great ways to style your own button-down [5], then shop the pieces I still have my eye on. One thing's for sure: I'm totally not done building out my feel-good collection.

Wear yours with cuffed denim and Crocs — seriously, the resulting look is that cool.

Opt for a mix-and-match ensemble with animal print and florals.

Style a tie-dye button-down over a silk midi skirt with socks and sandals for something that looks ultra relaxed.

Wear yours over a bright, shirred summer dress.

Rock the full set with the same print from head to toe and accessorised with gold necklaces.

Allow one to perk up your travel style when you work it with track pants and slides.

Wear it with sports shorts, tie-dye socks, and trainers for a day spent in the sun.

Accessorise a girlie print with long chandelier earrings.

Try it with biker shorts and flat logo sandals.

Wear an oversize fit over a high-waist swimsuit and accessorised with a simple satin head scarf.

Try a playfully patterned one over your strapless maillot to update your swim style with quirky details.

Rock a patchwork pattern with a distressed-edge bucket hat.

Add another layer onto your monochrome outfit with a button-down that combines your favourite tones.

Style it open as a cover-up on the beach with shapely cat-eye sunglasses and a basket bag.
