See How 1 Fashion Editor Shops For the Holidays With $500

One Editor, One $500 Budget — See How She Spends It For the Holidays!

In the midst of holiday shopping for friends and family, I tend to forget about building my own wardrobe. Funny, I know, being that I'm a fashion editor and shopping is essentially my job. While I do own some LBDs I can repurpose for the season — cocktail parties, engagement parties, fancy dinners, etc. — I usually like to pick up some new, trend-worthy items too. For 2019, we're seeing glitzy tights and silk co-ord sets take hold. Even though the holiday sections on your favourite sites are stocked with all things sparkly, comfort is actually key when you consider the materials these clothes are made of.

As I mentioned, I'm in the process of collecting gifts for all the important people in my life, and that's why I've got to cap off my personal spendings with a budget. I decided on $500 and then went on my own mini spree, considering the affordable fashion labels that have spoken to me lately, whether it's because of the brand's price point or the wide range of sizes that are offered (hello, Universal Standard, thank you for being alive!!!). Ahead, see how I spent my money sensibly — I think I did a good job. Do you?

Universal Standard Top + Skirt

I love that you can mix and match these two pieces. You can tuck the top into the slip skirt for a more polished look, or half-tuck it for casual parties. Of course, I also fully plan on wearing the bottom with my cosy sweaters. These classy, versatile pieces come in sizes 00 to 4XL, which is why I'm such a fan of the brand.

Dame The Everyday Trouser-Midnight Navy

Guys, I felt these trousers in person, and the material is unreal. It's soft, but heavy, so it creates a super flattering silhouette on your body, and if you're into the whole casual jumpsuit look, you can score the matching top and wear with heels for an easy, laidback uniform. These pants are a big must-have for me.

Sam Edelman Denia Slingback Pumps

when a simple holiday pump like this one goes on sale, you can't pass it by. I'm ready to style these with midi dresses and denim alike. My style tends to be a little quirky, so these will be great for when I need a subtle girlie touch.
