Sorry, but Ella Emhoff's Crystal-Embellished Coat Stole the Show at the Inauguration
Attendees at the presidential inauguration brought their best coat game for the momentous occasion. Kamala Harris repped Black LGBTQ+ designer Christopher John Rogers in purple, Dr. Jill Biden wowed in a sparkly number by Markarian, and Michelle Obama opted for a regal plum pantsuit by Sergio Hudson. Meanwhile, Kamala's stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, sealed her style icon status in perhaps the most talked-about outerwear of the day.
A fashion designer and student at the Parsons School of Design in New York City, Ella instantly turned heads and sparked Twitter buzz as she walked down the steps of the Capitol alongside her brother, Cole. She chose to wear Miu Miu's Shetland Pied De Poule coat while watching her stepmom make history as the first woman, first Black person, and first person of south Asian descent to serve as Vice President of the United States.
The plaid number stood out among the sea of monochromatic outfits at the event, due in large part to the copper and gold crystal embellishments dripping down the shoulders. The A-line coat fit Ella like a glove, cinching in at the waist before flaring out and extending to mid-calf. She completed the fabulous design with a leather, croc-embossed headband by Loeffler Randall, black face mask, leather gloves, a black handbag, and black boots.
