Fashion Brands That Support LGBTQ+ Causes All Year Long

These 9 Fashion Brands Celebrate the LGBTQ+ Community All Year Long

We tend to see an uptick of fashion brands supporting LGBTQ+ individuals in June with collections and products that celebrate Pride. But some companies are rightly choosing to show their support beyond Pride month by raising awareness and funds for the community all year long.

Brands like Play Out Apparel have made a year long commitment to highlight LGBTQ+ creators and influencers, while corporations like Gap support their LGBTQ+ employees with inclusive work practices, and department stores like Nordstrom make monetary donations to partners like Utah Pride Centre. If you want to make sure you spend your money where it makes an impact, we suggest you take a look at these nine fashion brands that support the LGBTQ+ community 365 days a year.

Levi's was one of the first companies to donate to HIV/AIDS causes in 1982, as well as the first Fortune 500 company to offer full medical benefits to unmarried domestic partners of employees. The brand also filed a brief with the California Supreme Court supporting same-sex marriage in 2007. In the past two years, 100 percent of the net proceeds of Levi's Pride collection were donated to the Harvey Milk Foundation, Stonewall Community Foundation, and OutRight Action International. Levi has also consistently received top ratings from the Human Rights Campaign's Business Coalition for the Equality Act, which rates companies on their equity for LGBTQ+ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits, and practices.

As a queer-owned business, Otherwild celebrates feminism and LGBTQ+ pride year-round. Throughout the year, the brand donates money from the sales of specific products to a variety of LGBTQ+-friendly organisations, including The National Centre for Transgender Equality and The Lesbian Herstory Archives.

Gap has partnered with the United Nations Foundation during Pride month for several years to raise awareness and funds for United Nations Free & Equal Campaign. The brand has also organised a group within the company called GEAR, whose mission is to create an inclusive and supportive environment for its LGBTQ+ employees. Gap has received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's Business Coalition for the Equality Act as well.

Every month Bianca Designs donates proceeds from their Love Knows No Gender products (like this pin for $12) to several foundations that support the LGBTQ+ community, including GLSEN and Trans Lifeline.

Owned and operated by Liz Bertorelli, who identifies as queer, Passionfruit creates inclusive clothing and accessories that allow people to show their pride all year long while giving back to the LGBTQ+ community. Promoting self-love and confidence, FLAVNT Streetwear uses their social visibility to show that not everyone fits into neat gender categories. In addition to continuously featuring LGBTQ+ models to highlight the community, FLAVNT Streetwear also has fundraising campaigns to help members of the transgender community raise money for gender-affirming surgeries. Each fundraising partner is chosen through an application process.

Each year, Nordstrom supports hundreds of nonprofits, and a number of these organisations, including Utah Pride Centre and The The Centre on Colfax, help to provide valuable services and resources to the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, Nordstrom has provided $100,000 in grants to LGBTQ+ youth service organisations. The brand has also consistently received top ratings from the Human Rights Campaign's Business Coalition for the Equality Act.

Certified as a LGBT Business Enterprise by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Play Out Apparel gives customers the opportunity to save money while donating to the people and causes that they hold close to their heart. Customers can participate in its 10-10-10 initiative and receive 10 percent off their order, donate 10 percent of their total to a LGBTQ+-friendly nonprofit, and support one of the influencers Play Out Apparel has partnered with by using a discount code at checkout attached to the customer's recipient of choice. You can find a full list of the codes on the brand's website and you can find the brand on Instagram at @PlayoutNYC.
