The Fendi baguette may have been launched in 1997, and Carrie Bradshaw very well may have played a part in its fame, but the little shoulder bag is back again, and we love the new iterations just as much. What's the difference between the vintage purses — many of which you can score pre-owned online for a slash of the price — and the one's retailing at Fendi? "We are very much trying to push the message that the baguette is no longer an evening bag to be worn tucked under your arm, but it's more modern now and can be worn crossbody," Fendi's senior PR manager told me.
Some of the celebrities wearing the newer baguettes (think models who are on the go like Elsa Hosk, Gigi Hadid, and Ashley Graham or actresses who need mini red carpet pouches like Kiernan Shipka and Priyanka Chopra) are utilising the added, multifunctional features like that one. While I am very much of the Carrie camp and love the old-school aesthetic — Carrie wore the above woven baguette with her evening dress at a Sex and the City screening in 2000 — I think all Fendi baguettes are gorgeous. Wouldn't you be crazy to disagree?
