If Gwen Stefani Wears a White Wedding Dress, Will There Be Cowboy Boots Underneath?

28/10/2020 - 04:23 PM

I'm not going to lie, a part of me wants Gwen Stefani [1] to walk down the aisle to Blake Shelton [2] in cargo pants and cowboy boots [3]. But I'm sure she'll impress us in something far better than that. The singer has worn the likes of Valentino, Vivienne Westwood, Vera Wang, and Margiela on red carpets past, but her first wedding dress [4] (which she wore in 2002 to marry Gavin Rossdale [5]), was by John Galliano. The designer created her a custom dip-dyed dress in an asymmetrical silhouette with a pink skirt. Gwen brought the colour moment full circle with a tiny pink bow pinned to the tulle at the top of her corset — because not all brides wear white.

Of course, Gwen has come a long way in her fashion evolution since then, but we like to think she'll always pay homage to her punk roots, and maybe add a subtle, tough edge to her bridal look. We're thinking something along the lines of the "Fashion Icon" train [6] she wore to the 2019 People's Choice Awards, customised by Vera Wang. Ahead, we've gathered some of Gwen's most striking fashion moments, all of which showcase her range of style. From sequins and tulle to bright colours and sheer panels, Gwen can truly wear anything. Only time will tell if she adds a country twist to her party look. Is anyone else picturing a bejeweled bodysuit and diamond-encrusted cowgirl hat for dancing the night away at the reception?

Gwen Looks Great in Tulle With Ornate Embellishments

She wore this Dolce & Gabbana number to perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards alongside Blake Shelton.

We Wouldn't Put it Past Her to Incorporate Text

Her extravagant Vera Wang gown said "Fashion Icon" [8] at the 2019 People's Choice Awards.

She Might Also Go For a Bejeweled Bodysuit, at Least For the Reception

At the 2019 Met Gala, Gwen completed this Moschino by Jeremy Scott look with Christian Louboutin patent pumps.

Gwen Clearly Digs the Ombré Effect

Lest you forget, her 2002 wedding dress had a pink fade at the bottom. She chose this halter-style Marchesa number for the 2016 Glamour Women of the Year Awards.

And She's Bold in a Sheer, Bodycon Moment

Blake let Gwen steal the spotlight in this Yanina Couture satin petal gown at the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscar party. Her Jimmy Choo clutch just brought more attention to the fact that Gwen looks really good in red.

Gwen Has Experimented With Texture Before

She wore Salvatore Ferragamo's swingy fringe from the resort 2012 collection for the Performing Arts gala in 2013, which she attended with then-husband Gavin Rossdale [9].

We Love Seeing Her in a Gown With Classic Punk Elements

The theme for the 2013 Met Gala "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" was right up Gwen's alley. While Rossdale wore a plaid suit and platform brogues, Gwen stood by his side making a statement in this Maison Martin Margiela number.

Sheer Panels Are Always an Option

It's hard to imagine the confidence it must take to wear sheer panels from head to toe like this, but Gwen pulled it off in Stella McCartney for the world premiere of My Valentine in 2012.

Black Accents Will Add Just Enough Edge to Any White Dress Gwen's Got on

The black-and-white colour palette toughened up the look of the Giorgio Armani dress Gwen wore to Cannes in 2011.

But She'd Also Glow in Golden Shimmer

This was a decidedly softer look for Gwen, who showed up to the 2010 Met Gala wrapped in this metallic, floor-sweeping dress.

If She Goes For Sequins, You Know They'll Be Elaborate

At the Vanity Fair party in 2005, Gwen wore this Versace number with a minimalist little sandal — the dress didn't call for more than that.

But Imagine if She Takes It Back to Her Harajuku Roots

Gwen and her dancers went all out in plaid for the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. Gwen wore Vivienne Westwood, a designer she's no stranger to.

Gwen Also Looks So Sleek in All-White With a Cap Sleeve

She impressed everyone in this Valentino number at the 2004 Golden Globe Awards.

If She Opts For Dizzying Prints, It'll Probably Be For the Party

We'd love to see her in crazy graphics for one of her wedding events. Here she is in Dior, attending an event hosted by the French fashion house in 2003.

Lest You Forget, Her First Wedding Dress Had a Pink Dyed Hem

Gwen wore John Galliano [10] for her 2002 wedding to Gavin Rossdale [11], which took place in London.

There Will Always Be Room For a Fuzzy Bikini Top and Platforms — Heck Yes, Even at the Wedding

Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves. Gwen's appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1998 alongside No Doubt is still one of her most iconic fashion moments.
